So it's clear, quiet, sunny and cloud and smoke free here in Gardnerville this morning. News reports are showing that the inversion layer of smoke in the basin will start to move out about now as the winds pick up. M's been great letting me hang out here, and I even got to swim with her master's team this morning, a much needed head clearing exercise.
It's odd to see Lake Tahoe on all the national news right now, and I wonder if the news helicopters would be better used to put out the bloody inferno instead of ferrying reporters around to comment on the smoke and flames. (Me cynical? Never.)
The roads are back open again, bar the section of Highway 89 where the fire jumped yesterday. While this is reassuring news, the fact that areas near that road section have been evacuated as a preventative measure is not so hopeful.
At this point I'd like to go back home tomorrow, but that's wholly dependent on what happens in the next 12-24 hours.
